Cinemagic Ground Breaking
Mayor Melody Thompson and Urban Renewal Agency Chair Tony Helbling joined Chuck Nakvasil of Cinemagic in breaking ground for the long awaited theater and parking lot for the City of Canby. A large crowd of excited residents watched and learned that October 26, 2009 is the opening day for the theater.

Former Community Development Director John Williams introduced the concept in February of 2006. In a community survey in March of 2006, 94.5 percent of the 830 respondents indicated they favored a cinema in Canby. High school students listed a movie theater as top priority during a poll taken in several classes.

The Canby Urban Renewal Agency purchased land to build a 154-space public parking lot. The City also received a land donation from the Cutsforth family in the form of a reduced sales price for the parking lot property and a gift from the estate of Alice Klohe, allowing additional land to be purchased to expand the public parking lot project.
